David’s experience as a farm boy taught him the value of hard work. After trying his hand at farming for several years, he ventured into home construction. He attended carpenters trade school and became a member of the Twin Cities Carpenters and Joiners Union.
After marrying Judy and the birth of their 2 children, they moved the family to Cottage Grove where he established his reputation as a quality builder. He eventually went into business for himself forming Klemmensen Builders and Designers. This business was very successful for many years and won many accolades including the 1987 Parade of Homes Award of Excellence for single family homes.
David and Judy moved to Woodbury into a beautiful home which he built. They lived there for many years. On December 27, 2005, Judy passed away after a short illness. After Judy’s passing, David closed his construction business, but he did not lose his love and involvement in carpentry and home building. He established another business, Quality Home Inspectors, where he worked with area real estate businesses doing inspections prior to sales. One day at St. Andrews, a fellow church member approached him with another job opportunity. Consequently, David worked as a valet for Mercedes Benz of Maplewood for many years. He loved that job, especially driving beautiful cars and meeting interesting people. This is where he met his present wife, Darla. They were married on January 7, 2017. David retired from his final job as a greeter at the Woodbury Costco at age 84. He and Darla enjoyed retirement in their home in Lake Elmo, MN.
