He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Holmberg; sister, Geraldine Ferdelman; and Betty, his loving wife of 13 years.
Fred was a wonderful step-father and was loved dearly by his step-children, Tracy (Stephen) Heuer and Elizabeth (Charles) Bonhert, and his grandchildren Koen & Kira Heuer and Amethyst & Adelaide Bonhert. Fred and Betty, together, welcomed even more bonus children and grandchildren with open arms and loved them well in their home together in Fred’s later years.
He is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of Shannon, Mary; his parents Fred and Geraldine Holmberg; and sisters: Linda Hallauer, Artall Hamm, and Kimberly Murphy.
Fred was known for his heartwarming laugh, kindness, patience, cheeky sense of humor, and diligent work ethic. He was a stranger to no one and found friends everywhere he went. Fred cherished spending time with his family, singing and making music with his guitars, and absorbing history in any way he could. He was a dedicated boiler engineer who served the students and staff of St. Paul public school district for 30 years before his well deserved retirement in 2023.
A remembrance of Fred’s life well-lived will be held March 24th at Wulff Funeral Home Woodbury. Visitation 10am, services at 11am, and luncheon with the family to follow. Inurnment will be at St. Mary of the Lake in White Bear Lake that afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Sarcoidosis Foundation (https://www.stopsarcoidosis.org/); in support of the foundation’s continuing work to heal and prevent childhood illnesses that compromise the livelihoods of their survivors in their adult years.
