Of Woodbury
Passed away January 24, 2013 at home with his wife, sister-in-law, and niece by his side. He went to his Lord with serenity, accepting the things he could not change. He fought a long and courageous battle with lung and brain cancer and several strokes. He was born on May 19, 1941 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Vernon and Elizabeth (Roberts) Ebert. John graduated from St. Thomas Academy High School in 1959. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and he was the youngest to do so in the nation at that time. John was the ultimate salesman. He retired in 2001 from selling the car he loved the most – the Volvo. He had a never failing devotion to the Green Bay Packers, was a daily Jeopardy watcher, able to complete a New York crossword puzzle in record time, and an avid golfer. Until cancer disabled him, he loved his time at the Hudson Golf Course with all his golfing friends. John was proud of his 24 years of sobriety, and he served as an inspiration and mentor to other AA members. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Judy Anderson; daughters, Dr. Suzanne Ebert (Ken Smith) and Kari Jones (Ed Spaulding); sons, Daniel Ebert and Jay Amiot (Jeanne Stoe); brothers, David Ebert (Anne Parkinson), Thomas Ebert (Maryanne), and Fr. Douglas Ebert; 11 grandchildren: Matthew Ebert, Shannen Ebert, Jordan Jones, Alex Spaulding, Maggie Spaulding, Luke Spaulding, Amanda Smith, Taylor Smith, Alex Stoe, Cameron Stoe, and Chelsey Homme; 2 great-grandchildren, Aiden Ebert and Emmy Johnson; longtime devoted nurse and caretaker, Sarah Homme; extended family, including cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. A Memorial Service will be held for John at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 2nd, at Wulff Woodbury Funeral Home, 2194 Woodlane Dr., Woodbury, 651-738-9615. There will be a visitation for one hour before the service. Memorials to the family are preferred.
