Kathryn “Kathy” Anne Moen was born September 25, 1953 to Richard and Patricia (Moraine) Britton in Merced, CA. She grew up in the neighboring town of Atwater, CA where she lived with her parents and younger brother Steven.
Kathy graduated from Atwater High School in 1971 and went to Merced Community College where she soon met her future husband, Lauren Moen. After community college, Kathy and Lauren were both planning on going to California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) to finish their bachelor degrees and decided to go as a married couple; they were married on August 17, 1973. Kathy earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from CSULB in 1977.
Kathy and Lauren shared a common love for outdoor activities while living in California, including hiking, camping, and skiing. They also enjoyed traveling and visiting friends all around the country.
In June 1982, Kathy and Lauren became parents when their son Martin was born.
In 1986, the family moved to Woodbury, MN with Lauren’s job at 3M. They were only planning on being in Minnesota for 3-5 years before moving back to California, but life had other plans for them and they remained in the same house in Woodbury for 37 years. Martin joined preschool at the Methodist Church in Woodbury where Kathy found an amazing group of mom friends that she remained close with for the rest of her life, appropriately called the “Preschool Moms”. Kathy also joined a local bowling league and made more lifelong friends, appropriately called the “Bowling Ladies;” there were several crossovers between the Preschool Moms and Bowling Ladies.
In November 1987, less than a year after moving to Woodbury, Kathy and Lauren became parents for a second time when their daughter Maren was born.
Kathy was a stay-at-home mom with Maren for a few years, then when it was time for Maren to go to preschool at the Methodist Church, Kathy got a job there as a preschool teacher. Later, Kathy worked at Target, then at 3M in Traffic Safety Systems. She retired from 3M in 2015.
Through all stages of her life Kathy made close friends that she kept near and dear to her heart.
Kathy loved playing games including Bunco and Skip-Bo, going for a drive, reading, crafting, watching her favorite TV shows including Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, enjoying new and favorite foods, and visiting with friends and family. Kathy loved being a mom and “Grammy” to her granddaughters.
Kathy is survived by her husband of 50 years Lauren, son Martin (Emily) Moen of Ankeny, IA, daughter Maren (JJ) Singer of Holmen, WI , and her 3 beautiful granddaughters, Maddy Moen (19), Allie Moen (16), and Corinne Singer (19 months). In addition, she is survived by her brother Steven Britton (Debra Rosander), her sister-in-law Karen Moen-Faust, her nephews and nieces Joshua Britton, Amanda Britton, Katie (Justin) Crawford, and Kurt Faust, and many cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Patricia (Moraine) Britton, and her grandparents Edward and Urma Moraine and Daniel and Virgie Britton.
Kathy’s family is eternally grateful for the loving, respectful, and dignified care that she received at Walker Methodist Westwood Ridge 2 and from Beyond Hospice. While Kathy only knew these individuals for 5 weeks, she truly loved them and they became her family.
