Guadalupe (Lupe) Gilbert Haro, 94, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021. He was born to Juan and Alice Haro in the small community of Bryn Mawr, California on December 12, 1926. He spent his youth in the Redlands, California area near his birthplace. In 1943, Guadalupe moved with his family to Woodlake, California and had resided there ever since.
Guadalupe served as a weather observer in the Army Air Corps at the end WWII, honorably discharged in 1946. He served his country again, in 1950 as a field medic during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1952.
Guadalupe met his future wife, Virginia Trujillo, in 1953. They married June 5, 1954, and raised two children together. Early in their marriage, Guadalupe was employed as a farm laborer and service station employee. Wanting a better life for his family, he studied for and passed his State Contractor’s Licensing Board Exam. He became a self-employed farm labor contractor, respected by his many employees. He spent the remaining years of his working career as a rural postal carrier.
Guadalupe enjoyed many travels with his wife and family. He enjoyed his golf outings with his son John and a revolving cast that included his brothers, nephews and occasionally his grandson, daughter and son-in-law. Guadalupe loved spending time working the olive orchard he and Virginia purchased in 1973.
Guadalupe was preceded in death by his father, Juan Bocanegra Haro and his mother Elisa (Alice) Bermudis Arbelbede Haro. Also by his sisters Helen Gonzales and Esther Haro and by his brothers Charles, Robert, Joseph and Ernest.
Guadalupe is survived by Virginia, his wife of 67 years, his son John P. Haro, daughter Linda Berry (David), grandson Lawrence Hicks and step-granddaughters Devin Smith and Chelsy Hirsh. He is also survived by his sisters Eva Haro, Alice Diaz, Lillian Lupercio and Rita Hernandez, by his brother John A. Haro and numerous nephews, nieces and god-children.
Visitation for Guadalupe will be held Monday, September 13, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM at Miller Memorial Chapel, 134 Cypress, Woodlake, CA. Rosary will be held at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 199 Pepper Street in Woodlake, CA on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 9:00 am at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, 199 N. Pepper St., Woodlake, CA. Interment will follow immediately at Woodlake Public Cemetery, 165 N. Cypress Street, Woodlake, CA 93286.
