Cecile was the widow of Joseph Pontecorvo, fellow WWII veteran and brother-in-arms of my late father Salvatore J. Salemi. They both fought in the Italian campaign, but first met in person about 30 years ago at American Legion Post #1836 in Boulevard Gardens, Woodside, New York. Cecile, as well as myself, supported our respective, beloved gentlemen in their declining years at the most important annual milestones for this famed veterans organization as well as our nation, namely the marches and ceremonies commemorating Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Cecile was a kind and even-tempered woman who patiently bore her infirmities and confinement these past eight years, beginning about the time of Mr. Pontecorvo's passing.  I visited her in this period and she was always the soul of equanimity and forbearance. The therapeutic nature of our meetings were mutually beneficial as all human interactions ought to be. I'm sorry I did not see her more often. Rest in peace, Mrs. Pontecorvo, and please say hello to Joe and Dad for me.
