

Patrick Donnelly (John to his friends and family) passed away on September 25, 2023, at the age of 91. John was a decorated veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 1st Marine Division. John joined the US Postal Service after his military service, retiring after 30 years as a General Supervisor. After his postal career he went to work for the NYC Board of Education as an auditor for Special Education programs. After his second retirement John became a volunteer at the NY Public Library teaching new immigrants how to read and write english, helping many of them get GED's and drivers licenses. John was tireless so he also became a volunteer tax preparer for the IRS, serving elderly people at a local senior center. He was a lifelong member of both the VFW and the Catholic War Veterans, serving in leadership positions at various times. He proudly marched in every parade and loved his country and his Woodside community. He not only gave of his time but also his money donating to many charities especially veterans causes. He was a dedicated and loving husband to his wife Caroline who he tirelessly cared for through a long illness until her passing. He was a powerful example and father to Ken, his daughter in law Elsa and their children. John had many nieces and nephews throughout the US, he loved them all especially Jo Ellen and Bobby. John was one of God's special people and he will be missed by everyone! Semper Fi Patrick John Donnelly. A gathering for Patrick will be held Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kennedy-Roth Funeral Home, 41-45 58th Street, Woodside, NY 11377. A committal service will occur Monday, October 2, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Calvary Cemetery, 49-02 Laurel Hill Boulevard, Woodside, NY 11377. A mass of christian burial will occur Monday, October 2, 2023 from 10:45 AM to 11:45 AM at St Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, 58-02 Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, NY 11377.
