Perla Velez Yapching

On Saturday, July 17, 2021, Perla Velez Yapching passed away at the age of 89. She was the beloved mother of Gesile & Cat, Ray & Trina, Rose & Steven and Silvino III, Grandma to Resil, Kyle, Shaina and Silver.

Perla was born in Kabankalan, Philippines on October 19, 1931 to Jose Velez and Maria Navales. She was married to Silvino Yunque Yapching Jr. She served her community as a grade one (1) teacher before leaving the Philippines to teach in Bauchi, Nigeria. Nanay was a self taught dressmaker who loved to make dresses for her daughters when they were still small. So it is no surprise that she bought a sewing machine for each of her three children. She loved to cook adobo, okra and valenciana (Filipino version of paella). She was a dedicated mother who instilled in her children the importance of education, self reliance, family values and friendship.
