Salvatore “Sal” H. Natale passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Astoria, Queens on June 19,1941, to Nunzio Natale and Rose DeMartino, Sal was a lifelong New Yorker who called Brooklyn his home.
Sal dedicated his professional career to the New York City Board of Education. Beyond his career, his true passion was music. He was an accomplished organist in New York City and a proud member of the American Guild of Organists. Early in his career, he served as the organist for his home parish, sharing his gifts and faith with his community for many years. He went on to serve as an organist and Choirmaster for numerous choirs throughout the five boroughs, concluding his long music career upon his retirement in 2015.
For Sal, music was more than talent it was a form of prayer. Through the sound of the organ, he brought comfort, beauty, and reverence to the many services and moments of worship he helped lead. A man of deep and unwavering faith, Sal began and ended each day in prayer and remained steadfast in his devotion to God throughout his life. His quiet strength, gentle spirit, and dry sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone who met him.
An avid traveler, Sal spent his life exploring the world's most exotic destinations. Later in life, he grew particularly fond of Florida, where he would rent a home for weeks at a time. These extended stays were a source of great joy for him and created a lifetime of wonderful memories.
Sal, beloved son of the late Nunzio and Rose Natale (nee DeMartino) is survived by his devoted spouse, Joseph, who walked every step of life’s journey by his side with steadfast devotion; his loving sister Mary Ann with whom he shared a lifetime of family memories and a deep, enduring bond; two cherished aunts, Tina and Ronnie and many beloved cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
