Affectionately known as “Dewdy,” Queens native Troy Bernard LeGare Jr. passed away on July 29, 2025. He will be remembered for his warm heart, sharp wit, infectious laugh, and unwavering willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. His delightful personality touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
A proud graduate of Baruch College in New York, Troy was a man of many passions. He loved the game of chess, rooted faithfully for the New York Knicks, Mets, and Jets, and immersed himself in the vibrant worlds of comic books—especially Marvel Comics. Over the years, he built an extraordinary collection of thousands of comics dating from the 1960s to the present day, each kept in meticulous, mint condition.
Drawn to earth tones that reflected his calm, grounded spirit, Troy also held a deep fascination for Norse mythology and treasured the words of Psalm 144.
Music was another great love. He played bass alongside his lifelong crew of childhood friends and brothers, creating memories as rich as the notes they played. He was an avid debater, never shying away from a good conversation, and he approached life with a thoughtful consideration for everyone around him—a true symbol of integrity.
Troy was also a man who found joy in the simple things. He often declared, with a smile, that he was “the best dishwasher around” and took pride in the routines of daily life. “Dewdy” was a fixture in his neighborhood, shoveling snow, putting garbage cans back, and helping his neighbors whenever needed.
After retiring from the New York Stock Exchange on Halloween of 2001—just one month after the tragic events of 9/11—Troy embraced his most treasured role: a stay-at-home dad. He was there for every milestone in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives—from births to birthdays, graduations to weddings, and christenings—always showing his unwavering love and support.
Troy leaves behind his devoted wife, Thelma LeGare; his children, Alprentice, Antoine, and Christopher; his beloved sister, Larissa “Reesa” Rogers; his cherished grandchildren; and a host of extended family, friends, and neighbors who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. His generosity, love for life, and commitment to family and community will continue to inspire all who knew him.
