Bill was a good man. The world could use more like him. He used to say he was old-school. He took good care of his mother and father and cared for the people around him. His smile will truly be missed because it was genuine. 

I did not know William or as we called him Uncle Billy very well. I only had the pleasure of meeting him once, back in 2018. That's all it took though to get an understanding of the man.  He cared for his family and thought fondly of his two sisters, two nephews, four nieces and three grand-nephews, even if he never showed it much. He was a social guy, easily making friends with strangers at a restaurant after only being around them for 30 minutes. He referred to himself as a "meat and potatoes" type of guy. Not only in his choice of food, but by his actions. He took care of his parents until their passing. He took pride in his home, always keeping it clean and organized. He was proud to be a Lanigan, and proud to be a New Yorker. He loved western movies, so much so that on his most recent trip to Texas in 2018, he stopped at the local cowboy store and bought a cowboy hat and bolo tie just like John Wayne would wear. He took pride in that hat and bolo tie, however he was such an upstanding gentleman with so much class that he refused to wear it to a wedding, even if the wedding was in Texas. As I stated earlier, I did not know Uncle Billy well, but in my brief time knowing him I know that he was a great man. I also know that the world is a lesser place without him, but Heaven is a greater place with him.
