Bonnie was born on March 4, 1955, in Augusta, Georgia, to Bernice Leclair Johnson and Clifford Gregory. She grew up in a large blended family, an experience that shaped her lifelong commitment to family and connection. She was a devoted mother, a proud grandmother known as “Yaya,” and a loving sister and aunt. Building and caring for her own family was central to her life, a role she embraced fully.
Bonnie attended Augusta College and spent her working years in service-oriented and professional roles. She worked as a social worker, served as a secretary in the Executive Office for the State of Georgia, and later worked as a paralegal, bringing care, precision, and dedication to each position.
She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Gottfried, and her husband, Nick; her son, Chase Bishop; her grandchildren, Liam and Anestyn; her brothers, John Gregory and Jimmy Andrews; her sisters, Donna Daniel and Linda Volmer; along with many other siblings; and extended family.
Bonnie’s life centered on her family. She showed her love through consistency, presence, and a giving heart. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest priority, and being “Yaya” was a role she treasured. She will be remembered for the care she showed others and for the steady presence she was to those who loved her.
A memorial service will be postponed until after the holidays and announced at a later date.
