Carolyn Burns Hall, of Marietta, Georgia, formerly of Mississippi, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2019.
Carolyn lived a life full of zest and did things her own way. She had an incredible sense of humor even on the hardest of days. She deeply cared for her furry kids, her daughter, family, friends and nature. She found solace and comfort in her back yard - a true haven. She enjoyed tending to the fish in her pond, feeding birds and caring for her various plants. She was a foodie at heart, enjoying all style of cuisine from fine dining to the simplicity of greens and cornbread.
Carolyn had spent her career in education, retiring after many fulfilling years as Dean of the Mountain View Campus of Chattahoochee Technical College. She was one who led by example and believed that her students should come first. Over the span of her profession, she made many life-long friends who loved and supported her whole heartedly.
Carolyn and her daughter, Johanna, shared their love of travel and were able to experience incredible journeys together over the years. They traveled to Greece, Costa Rica, Italy, St. Maarten and Napa to celebrate and enjoy life. Their most recent trip was this past summer on the most incredible Alaskan cruise.
Carolyn was first diagnosed with lung cancer 25 years ago and was cleared after two successful surgical procedures. She was thankful for each day and embraced each victory. Her cancer later returned in 2017 and, like the fighter she was, she put on her “boxing gloves” battling as hard as she could with a regiment of chemotherapy. During this time she exuded strength, positivity, and was known as the “Rockstar” in the oncology office. She was scheduled to begin a clinical trial the same week she was hospitalized in October 2019. It was important for her to continue fighting, not only for herself, but also for others who might benefit from the therapy in the future.
Carolyn leaves behind her daughter, Johanna Hall; brother, Joe Burns; nieces, Aimee Burns Miller and Alicia Burns; and her fur baby, Sophia, to cherish her memory.
In honor of Carolyn's zest for style, please wear celebratory colors as we begin her Celebration Service at 5:00 PM Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Woodstock Funeral Home 8855 Main Street Woodstock, Georgia 30188 (receiving friends an hour prior). We will process on foot in a celebratory second line to Vingenzo's following the services.
