

The heavens opened to greet Mae L. Trittenbach Werkheiser, 91, of Murphy, NC on May 30, 2017. Mae was born in Springtown, PA, and lived in the Bethlehem, PA area most of her life. She worked as a secretary for the Rodale Press Company in Emmaus, PA, and also as a church secretary for 25 years at the New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, in Bethlehem, PA. When Mae and her husband retired, they moved to Pinellas County, FL.
Mae was a member of the church choir at Lower Saucon Lutheran Church in Bethlehem, PA for many years, and joined the Christ the King Lutheran Church in Largo, FL when she moved there, working as a volunteer in the church office for more than 4 years. At the time of her death, she had continued to sing on the church choir of her current church family, at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Morganton, GA.
Mae was married to the late James Luther Werkheiser for 57 years, and they had one daughter, Susan L. Werkheiser Young of Murphy, NC, who survives her. Mae was proud to say she had 34 nieces and nephews, and she was a second mother to many of them, and a constant friend to the many people she’d met over the years, sharing her wisdom and good humor with them all. She was preceded in death by her parents, G. S. Clyde Trittenbach and Chloe Belle Trittenbach, and her siblings: Lester Trittenbach, Ruth Trittenbach Kotch, Catherine Trittenbach Sherrer, Ray Koehler, Forrest Trittenbach, Grace Trittenbach Meitzler, and Edward Trittenbach.
A memorial service will be scheduled at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church (SHLC) shortly. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mae’s memorial fund may be made to SHLC, 823 Forge Mill Road, Morganton, GA 30560. Mae will be interred at the Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, FL, beside her beloved Jim.
