Marlies is survived by her sister Annemarie Clark, her son Matty Rich and wife Terry, her daughters Wendy Caridi and husband Tom, Tammy Rich and husband Paul Graham, and Linda Rich and husband Jerry Reynolds, her grandchildren Jenna Todd, Matthew Rich, and Mackenzie Rich, her great grandchildren Olivia Todd and Benjamin Rich, and many treasured nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father August Heinrich Wilhelm Hans Heidemann, her mother Annemarie Clara Heidemann, brother Paul Heidemann, and sisters Christel Truglia, and Hildegard Brown.
Marlies cherished her family above all else. Born in the historic German village of Schötmar during a challenging era, she grew up with a deep appreciation for family, hard work, and the simple joys of life. After immigrating to the U.S. in 1947 she built a life rooted in family and community. She was known for her cooking, hospitality, gardening, craftwork, quick wit and humor, and for the way she made every person feel welcomed and cared for. A caregiver at heart, her nurturing nature could be felt in every gathering she touched, every meal she prepared, and every story she shared.
Her legacy lives on in the traditions she passed down, the love she gave so generously, and the countless lives she brightened. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date in 2026.
