Nancy K. Melcher passed away at age 76 at her home in Acworth, GA. Nancy was born March 4, 1945 in South Bend, IN, and adopted with her older brother John by Florence Finley Waldmanto to Florence Finley Waldman of East St. Louis, IL, and Bernard Waldman of New York, NY. She attended University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where she met and married John L. Melcher. John and Nancy were later divorced, but together they have two children. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, brother, John W. Waldman, sister, Gene Keyser, and step-mother, Glenna Frank Waldman Wintersteen. Nancy is survived by son, Chris Melcher (Darcy), and daughter, Michelle Melcher-Raffety (Shane), and her grandchildren, Joshua, Caleb, and Kyle. Also surviving are her sisters, Tawny Nelb (Bob), and Sharon Bechman (Jim). Nieces and nephews, Sean, Ryan, Kristin, Courtney, and Shannon, Jen Keyser-Selner and Sandra (Sue) Westerhouse also survive.
Being born in South Bend, Indiana, Nancy loved Notre Dame and everything Irish related. She loved getting to know all of her family, and reconnected with her birth family later in life and became close to all of them. Nancy was a seamstress her entire life. She could make anything, even clothes, costumes, quilts and crafts. She loved sewing groups and craft fairs, which she regularly attended. Nancy also developed a love for poker where she went by the name of “Irish”. This name truly suited her. If you asked all of her friends, the river would regularly bless her. Nancy made friends wherever she went, was extremely funny, and loved to talk and laugh with all. She would always bring a smile to everyone’s faces. “Irish” will be missed by all.
