Peter Alan Ward of Cumming, Georgia, was the son of Edwin Bishop Ward and Jane Capewell Ward. He was born in Yonkers, New York, and grew up in upstate New York and Connecticut. He graduated from Principia College and received his Master’s Degree in marketing from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. He served as the Registrar of Principia College during the period when the college registration was transitioning from hand-written in-
person registration to a computerized system.
Peter was a life-long student of Christian Science, and served as a marketing researcher for the Christian Science Publishing Society in Boston, Massachusetts before moving to Atlanta to work for the Atlanta Journal and Constitution. This began a long career in publishing that ranged from newspapers to trade magazines to K-12 textbooks. This eventually led him back to Boston as a sales consultant to The Christian Science Monitor and to other positions in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. He later worked in the field of out-placement, giving support and counseling to those
who had been laid off from their jobs.
In 2007, he retired and moved back to the Atlanta area with his wife, Julie (Laughridge ) Ward and their two children, Jamie and Katie Ward. He was very dedicated to his church, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Roswell, where he served in many roles. He played the trumpet in the Roswell New Horizons Band and wrote a number of of poems for the Christian Science Journal and Sentinel. He was known by friends and family as a truly gentle man who loved and appreciated everyone he met, and also as a very funny guy, as evidenced in his short films with his son Jamie, DadFlix.
His first love was his family.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate contributions to First Church of Christ, Scientist, Roswell, Georgia, to the Cedars Camps in Lebanon, Missouri, or to Georgia Public Broadcasting.
