

Richard O’Neal Painter, 76, of Marietta, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014. The funeral service will be Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11:00am in the chapel of Woodstock Funeral Home with Reverend Jay Christy officiating. Interment will follow at Rolling Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, September 5, 2014 from 4-8pm at the funeral home. Richard was born on January 12, 1938 in Buchanan, VA to the late Rosetta and Norville Painter. After graduating from high school, Richard attended technical college where he received an associate’s degree in welding. Richard was employed by Pace Industries, formally Continental Can on Chattahoochee Ave in Atlanta until his retirement. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. This was evident in his many hobbies that included gardening, fishing, scuba diving and most importantly his family. Richard was so passionate about scuba diving that he would often practice with his grandchildren in his daughter’s pool or the lake. He was very outgoing and devoted to his family. Richard could also repair just about anything and would never be seen without a hat. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Painter, sons, Norville O’Neal Painter III and Martin Christopher Painter, grandsons, Brandon Painter and Ricky Latham and brother, Jerry Painter and sisters, Edith Hall and Dean Spencer. Survivors include daughters, Connie Christy (Butch) and Katherine Balser, son, Thurman Painter (Jennifer), grandchildren, Kim Christy, Jay Christy, Nick Christy, Josh Christy, Kenneth Smith, Phillip Balser, Greg Painter-Williams, Craig Painter-Williams, Amber Painter-Williams, Brandon Painter, John Jordan and Krystal Freeman, great-grandchildren, Scott Lewis, Cameron Holmes, Austin McCrickard, Tyler Christy, Katie Christy, Hunter Christy, Haley Christy, Kayla Smith, Hayley Latham, Austin Latham, Madison Latham, Hayden Balser and Malachi Balser, brothers, Chester and Kenneth Painter, sisters, Shelvy Barnes and Betty Maxwell and many nieces and nephews.
