He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wilda Thompson; and his children: Michelle Dorman (Michael) of Conyers, GA, Joe Thompson (Bridget) of Kennesaw, GA, Mandy Garber (Scott) of Marietta, GA, and Nancy Woodward of Woodstock, GA. His grandchildren include Ryan Dorman, Freeman Thompson, Mikayla Dorman, Justin Thompson, Nicholas Garber, Jared Woodward, Lillian Garber, Charlotte Garber, and Devin Woodward. He is also remembered fondly by his former son-in-law, Chris Woodward. Tom is survived as well by many beloved members of his extended family, all of whom he cherished deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lois Thompson; his brothers, Richard Thompson and Walter Thompson; and his sister, Elaine Horne.
Tom worked for many years at Atlantic Steel in Atlanta, and after retiring, he enjoyed a second career as a school bus driver for Gwinnett County Schools. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and friend. Tom was active in his church and spent much of his time reading the Bible. He enjoyed watching the University of Georgia, classic John Wayne movies, and cheering for the Atlanta Braves. He loved watching his grandchildren’s activities—from baseball to tennis, football, basketball, soccer, art shows, musical concerts, and school events.
His wit was like no other, and his love for his family and Jesus was over the top—even though he himself was not. He was kind, patient, and quiet. His “grandpa-isms” will be forever missed by all who knew him.
In Lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta in Tom's name https://give.choa.org/site/Donation2?df_id=1480&mfc_pref=T&1480.donation=form1&s_src=MAIN2
