

Alvin "Al" Harris, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on February 24, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio. Born on March 19, 1947, in Ginsburg, Germany he lived a remarkable life filled with adventure, dedication, and passion.
Al graduated from Creston High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan, before earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Western Michigan University.
A proud veteran, Al served his country with distinction across multiple branches of the military. He was an active-duty member of both the Air Force and Navy and later served in the Army Reserve. His commitment to service exemplified his strength of character and unwavering dedication to duty.
Al was an avid photographer, car enthusiast, and loved traveling to new places. In his free time, Al enjoyed swimming at the Dublin Rec Center, and ballroom dancing with his friends. In quieter moments, he enjoyed watching his favorite TV show, Seinfeld, which never failed to bring a smile to his face.
A man of faith, Al was Jewish and an active member of Beth Tikvah Synagogue in Worthington Ohio. His spiritual community was an important part of his life and provided him with meaningful connections over the years.
Above all else, Al cherished his family. He is survived by his sister Chaya (Darryl) , his son Matthew (Tabatha), and his daughter Elisa (Jared); as well as his four grandchildren, Brandon, Lily, Tyler and Cruz, who brought immense joy to his life. Al’s parents, Edith and Emil Herskovicz, predeceased him but remained close to his heart throughout his journey of life.
Known for his sharp wit and unfiltered honesty, Al was never afraid to speak his mind. He had a gift of voicing frustrations at everyday life annoyances, often creating an unintended comedic moment that kept people laughing for days.
