Cynthia L. Taylor, age 60, of Worthington, passed away with family at her side on April 9, 2023, after a courageous fight with cancer. She was born Cynthia L. Winkle on April 7, 1963, in Warrensburg, Missouri. After spending her first two years on Guam Island with her family, she moved to Columbus with her parents, Davy and Rebecca Winkle and her brothers Derek and Eric.
Cindy graduated from Northside Christian School (1981), Denison University (1985), and Capital Law School (1988). She began her career as an attorney, employed by the Tenth District Court of Appeals and PUCO, and then, beginning in 1990, in the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office for over 30 years. She served as the Director of the Drug Prosecution Unit in that office for over two decades, and, in the late 1990’s, also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the prosecution of a major drug-trafficking operation in Columbus. After retiring from the County Prosecutor’s Office in early 2021, Cindy became a Senior Assistant Attorney General in the Worker’s Compensation Section in the office of the Ohio Attorney General. Many thanks to all of Cindy’s colleagues and friends over the years who helped make things possible.
It was at the Court of Appeals that she met Steve Taylor in 1988 and they fell in love and were married on May 26, 1990, at Central College Presbyterian Church in Westerville. Cindy and Steve have been blessed to have three wonderful children, Rebecca, Derek, and Jacob; Cindy’s passion and dedication and love for the kids knew no bounds. In their high school years, she also devoted her energies to serving for a number of seasons as the President of the Thomas Worthington Swim/Dive Boosters, supporting the boys’ and girls’ teams at TWHS.
Preceding Cindy in death were her parents Davy and Becky and her brother Derry. She is survived by her husband Steve and children Becca, Derek, and Jake, and by her brother Eric Winkle and niece Caroline Winkle, both of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The family’s wonder dog Molly will also miss her best friend immensely.
Cindy was fortunate to have the support of a talented team of care providers at the OSU James Cancer Hospital and would wish to acknowledge their efforts, including Alex Kim, Katie Berlin, Ashish Manne, Eric D. Miller, and Julie Banner. In lieu of flowers, please search “how to donate” on the OSU James website and consider contributing to programs there in the effort to defeat cancer.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Schoedinger Funeral and Cremation Service, 6699 North High Street in Worthington, followed by a private funeral service for family and then interment at Blendon Central Cemetery in Westerville. Rest in peace Honey Bunny—we love you forever.
