
Douglas S. Jauert, age 80, passed away on May 29, 2026, at The Bickford Memory Care, Worthington, Ohio. Doug was born on September 29, 1945, in Lima, Ohio to Elmer and Helen (Sutton) Jauert, both of whom preceded him in death.
He graduated from Wapakoneta High School in 1963 and from The Ohio State University in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, spending a year in Vietnam. He then earned his law degree in 1972 from The Ohio State University.
On August 21, 1971, he married Myra Zanglein, and she survives, in Dublin.
Doug is survived by two sons, Kurt (Francie) Jauert of Ladera Ranch CA; and Nicholas Jauert of St. Petersburg FL. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Isla Jauert and Aria Jauert of Ladera Ranch CA; and a sister, Joerdis (Eric) Fisher, of Lima, Ohio.
After practicing law in Columbus, Ohio for two years, Doug and Myra moved to Wapakoneta in 1974, where he started his law practice. He later joined James Weger and John Herman. After they retired, he joined Michael Burton until Doug's retirement in 2014, having practiced law in Wapakoneta for 40 years. During that time, Doug co-founded the Wapakoneta Ared Community Foundation and served as its president for 25 years. He was a member of the Elks, VW, AmVets, American Legion, Eagles, Rotary, St. Paul's United
Church of Christ and the Auglaize County, the Ohio and the American Bar Associations. He was also president and member of the Wapakoneta YMCA Board of Trustees. Other boards he served on were Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce, Wapakoneta Area Economic Development, Hauss-Helms Foundation, Telephone Service Co. and Home Savings and Loan. Doug was an avid golfer and had been a member of the Wapakoneta Country Club, Shawnee Country Club and later the Country Club of Muirfield in Dublin, Ohio. He was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoyed traveling and ballroom dancing. Doug had a big, contagious laugh that would put a smile on your face.
As they neared retirement, Doug and Myra moved to Dublin Ohio, and enjoyed spending winters in Fort Myers FL.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wapakoneta YMCA. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no memorial service.
