After dedicating many years to raising her three beloved children, Janet began a long and faithful career as a secretary, first at the North Branch YMCA and later at The Ohio State University, where her career spanned for 30 years.
Janet was an active and committed member of her community throughout her life. She was formerly involved with the Forest Park Civic Association and was a longtime member of Karl Road Christian Church. Her deep faith was a guiding light, and she found joy in singing hymns, attending Bible studies, and serving in any capacity needed—whether through her church or at Willow Brook Christian Village in her later years.
A passionate sports fan, Janet was a lifelong devotee of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians, a love she shared with her father during cherished train trips into the city to watch games. She was also an enthusiastic supporter of the Ohio State Buckeyes, planning her weekends around football games and donning scarlet and gray with pride.
Janet’s generosity of spirit showed in her tireless volunteer work. She was always the first to raise her hand, whether it was as a PTA member, soccer coach, scout leader, or party planner. Wherever there was a need, Janet was there—steadfast, smiling, and ready to help.
But above all, Janet was devoted to her family. She treasured every moment with her children and grandchildren, always ready with open arms and a warm embrace. She especially loved holding babies, offering comfort and care to parents in need of rest.
Even in her later years, Janet held vivid memories of her childhood, especially of riding her treasured horse, Buck, through the fields near her farm home. Though names and faces may have faded, those moments of joy and freedom remained with her. And now, we imagine her once more in that field, riding peacefully in her heavenly home.
She is survived by her children, Lori (Tony) Poleway, David (Shelly) Marshall, and Michael (Melanie) Marshall; grandchildren, Bobbi Jean, Kelsey, Jessica, Emily, Nathan, Joe, Alex, Andrea, and Adam; and numerous great grandchildren and extended family.
A private Celebration of Life will take place on May 18th.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or Willow Brook Christian Village in her memory. Janet’s family would like to extend tremendous gratitude for the years of love and care their mom received at Willow Brook Christian Village and for the compassion and expertise of the Heartland Hospice team in her final months of life.
