Jean Betz Rose, age 80, passed away on Friday, March 7th, 2025. She had been a resident of the Twin Lakes retirement community in Cincinnati, Ohio for the past 6 years. She spent most of her life in Ohio, as a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a cherished grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She was independent, fiercely loyal, fun-loving, curious, and kindhearted.
Jean was born in Cambridge, Ohio on August 13, 1944. She was the daughter of Delbert Stewart Parlet of Old Washington, Ohio and Marjorie Jeanette Castor of Kimbolton, Ohio. Jean spent her childhood years in Old Washington. Alongside her little brother, Jeffry, and her older sister, Joan, she was active in 4-H, showing dairy cows at the county fair. She went on to study at Ohio University in Athens where she received a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in business education.
On July 2,1967, she married Paul Martin Shimp, and they set off to make their first home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She began her teaching career in the Pittsburgh public school system before going to work at John Robert Powers School. They eventually made their way back to Ohio and settled down in Columbus where they would start their family, and Paul would found Shilowe Personnel Systems. Jean was a pillar of strength as they navigated the ups and downs of a start-up business and life as new parents. Her children, Mickey, Mindy and Marty, were her pride and joy. She ran a tight ship and her love and support for her family was endless. Jean was deeply engaged with her kids - academics, sports, dance, piano, and their social and emotional lives. Later, she was blessed with grandchildren whom she showered with the same abundance of love and support.
Jean was committed to supporting her community as a member of TWIG and enjoyed an active social life through her church, bowling league, book club, and various card clubs over the years. She was especially fond of a good game of bridge and a close game of basketball. Jean remarried on August 30, 2003, to Donald Rose of Worthington, Ohio. They enjoyed warm winters in Florida, playing golf (sometimes), and traveling here and abroad.
Jean was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. Whether it was hosting a Shilowe company dinner, a Massey’s pizza party following the big high school basketball game, a family road trip with her favorite Kenny Rogers tunes on 8 track and the kids sprawled out in the back, the annual trip to the Ohio State Fair, first stop: the animal barns, or just sitting back and enjoying her favorite view in Michigan… Glen Lake.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Stewart and Marjorie Parlet, sister, Joan Brown; husbands, Paul Shimp and Don Rose. Those who continue to celebrate her life are brother, Jeff (Lydia) Parlet, children Mickey (Jill) Shimp, Marty Shimp, Mindy (Rob) McCoy, as well as stepchildren Chris (Connie) Rose, Jack (Tyler) Rose, Steve (Stephanie) Rose, Wayne (Julie) Rose, Sue (Tim) Moore. Grandchildren are Braden Shimp, Tanner Shimp, Camille Shimp, Cassidy Shimp, Connor McCoy, Emily (Arin) Aragona, Lindsey (Mike) Toscano-Rose, Katie (Jared) Clayton, Patrick (Bridgett) Moore, Sean (Cecilia Ong) Moore, Kevin Moore, and Jack Rose along with 11 great grandchildren.
A visitation for Jean will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Schoedinger Worthington, 6699 N High Street, Worthington, OH 43085. A funeral service will occur Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Schoedinger Worthington.
