John David Warren, 74, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 18th, 2026, with his family by his side. John was born on March 6th, 1951, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late James and Irma Warren.
He was a proud graduate of Ohio University, where he met the love of his life, Cathy Eberhardt. They married in 1973 in Warren, Pennsylvania, beginning a beautiful partnership filled with devotion and adventure. Together, they were blessed with two wonderful children, Christopher and Abby, who were his pride and joy.
After completing his MBA, John was fortunate to find a career he loved; selling orthopedic implants with Zimmer Ohio for 30 years. His passion for his work was evident every single day, and he inspired countless young people to find passion in their own careers through his mentorship and encouragement.
A lifelong lover of golf, John was a founding member of The Medallion Club in Westerville. One of his proudest memories was winning the member guest tournament in 2008 alongside his son. Many of his dearest friendships were forged over those 27 holes, where camaraderie and competition came naturally to him.
Beyond the fairways, John’s zest for life was boundless. He loved to travel, scuba dive, listen to music, and dance in the living room with Cathy to his favorite oldies. He found joy in his faith, generosity, and the opportunities to give back to his community whenever he could.
When he retired in 2015, John fully embraced his favorite role yet—the World’s Greatest Grandpa. Being “Pa” to James, Merritt, Tucker, and Jay was the greatest joy of his life. He was fulfilled spending hours changing fishing lures, playing basement referee, and making sure the kids knew how much they were loved. He was a fixture at their games—easy to spot in his collection of Grandpa T-shirts and hats—encouraging the whole team and loving every minute!
John loved sunshine (especially on Lido Beach), early mornings watching the sunrise at Hoover Reservoir, cruising in his minivan in search of the perfect fishing hole, sipping a strong black coffee, and striking up great conversations with anyone he met.
He never met a stranger. John had a gift—he made everyone feel valued and special. His smile was contagious, his positive energy uplifting, and his kindness unwavering. He always looked at life with the glass half full.
This world is undoubtedly a better, brighter place because John was in it. And though he will be deeply missed, his love, kindness and light will live on in all who were lucky enough to know him.
He will continue to be cherished by his wife of 52 years, Cathy, son Christopher (Angie), daughter Abby (John) Underman, grandchildren James and Merritt Warren and Tucker and Jay Underman, sisters-in-law Gail (Dr. Gary) Warren, Sandy (Giles) Schutte and Wendy Hart, nephews Matt (Amy) and Daniel (Kristen) Warren, nieces Amy (Brett) Tomlinson and Lori (Dave) Soffer and great nieces and nephews Luke, Zach, Emily, Lizzy, Olivia, Zoe and Tessa.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23rd, 2026 from 4-7pm at Schoedinger Worthington Funeral Home, 6699 High Street, Worthington, OH 43085.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 24th, 2026 at 10:30 am at Church of the Messiah, 51 N. State Street, Westerville, OH 43081. There will be a private family burial.
