

Larry Wayne Shoemaker passed away on November 11, 2024, with his daughter Leslie at his side. Born January 25, 1939, in Locust Grove, Ohio, he was the seventh child of Everett and Edna. He graduated from Peebles High School in 1957, where he distinguished himself as both a scholar and a basketball player.
Larry attended The Ohio State University for both his undergraduate and medical school studies, graduating in 1965. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he completed his psychiatry training in Hawaii, where he married his wife, Leah. They later moved to Hamilton, Ohio, where their son Lance was born. The family eventually settled in Worthington, Ohio, where Larry joined the staff of Harding Psychiatric Hospital, ultimately becoming Chief of Staff. His daughter Leslie was born at Riverside Methodist, where Larry had a long and distinguished career as a staff psychiatrist. He dedicated himself to his private practice, earning the admiration and gratitude of countless patients who benefited from his compassionate care.
Beyond his career, Larry found joy in golf and traveling with friends and family. Most of all, he cherished his family and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Larry is survived by his wife, Leah; son, Lance; daughter, Leslie; and his beloved grandchildren, Liam, Lyndsi, Ellie, and Carson, who will miss him beyond measure.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Larry’s life will be held on February 27th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Schoedinger Funeral Home, 6699 N. High Street, Worthington, Ohio 43085.
