Marni-Lee Dye, the world’s best mother, a steadfast friend, and force of nature who possessed determination beyond measure, passed away unexpectedly on April 20, 2023, in Columbus, Ohio. Marni was 68 years old.
Marni will be greatly missed, every second of every day, by her daughter, Caitlin; her son-in-law, Jesse (whom she approved of unconditionally), and his family, Andrea, George, and Sophie; her brother, George “Butch” (Marcie); her half-siblings Sandy (Nick) and April; her nieces and nephews, Guinevere, Frank, and Lisa; her doggy grandson, Bo; and the many great friends and family by heart she made over her lifetime, including Karen, Kay, Chris, Joanne, Becky, her Advest, Worthington Wealth Management, and other professional families, and so many more. She is preceded in death by her sister, Bethann, and her parents, Marjorie and George.
Anyone who knew Marni knew her goodness of spirit. If there is a heaven, which she very much believed there is, she would have been first in line, the angels’ right-hand woman. She did not believe in cutting corners, cheating, or telling lies; she neither swore nor drank (save for the rare special-occasion amaretto sour or mudslide); and she worked hard for everything she ever owned. She loved classic rock, soap operas, Jeopardy!, and making art, and had the most beautiful handwriting you’d ever see. She was an excellent bowler—though she’d mask this with modesty—and Caitlin is told that, at a younger age, Marni was quite the wild child.
But what Marni cared most about was being Caitlin’s mother. She was a single mom who, simply put, sacrificed everything so Caitlin could have a blessed life. As a mother, she was loving, gentle, wise, funny, and generous. But don’t let that fool you: she did not hesitate to whoop Caitlin, or anyone else, at a game of Scrabble, a round of Mario Party, or a battle of wits. Caitlin loved her more than she can say in these pages and knows that Marni is, and already has been, talking to and guiding her from paradise.
A celebration of Marni’s life will take place on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Schoedinger Funeral Home, 6699 North High Street, Worthington, OH, 43085. Please RSVP at this link: https://pp.events/marni-lee. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you spend quality time with your loved ones, laugh, pet a dog, or do something that brings you joy. For those willing and able, Marni also would appreciate donations made in her name to the Humane Society; the ASPCA; or the American Cancer Society.
One final note: Marni will not be alone up there. She will be forever comforted in heaven by her loyal canine companion, Sam (“Sammy”), and her beloved mother, Marjorie, who will be waiting for her at the gates. We imagine that they are sitting together, contentedly, by the water’s edge, soaking up the sun.
