Matt had a strong, yet gentle spirit and highly valued spending time with family and friends. Being a naturally philosophical person, Matt enjoyed long conversations with his dad discussing complex topics. These conversations became a ‘regular thing’ over the years. A deep thinker, Matt processed his inner thoughts and heart through poetry, an outward expression, providing solace during difficult seasons of life.
Matt enjoyed a good game of golf, had a passion for music, and loved good humor. In recent years he developed a passion for cooking, creating his own recipes. His friends and family enjoyed the results of his culinary skills and creative dishes. Matt was a 2009 graduate of Bowling Green State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Matt enjoyed fraternity life and served as president of Delta Tau Delta. Lifelong friendships grew in and through this ‘brotherhood’.
Matt entered the business world and worked for Unum Insurance for 12 years. He always said growing up that he wanted a job requiring business attire. And he got just that! He began his career as a sales rep and eventually became the Managing Director of the Pittsburgh office. He often spoke of the rewards of this position, affording him the opportunity to train and develop others, helping each team member to become a better version of themselves. Several of those he hired/trained rose to be among the top sales reps in the company. He was loved and respected by his colleagues and team.
Matt was a passionate fan of Ohio State Buckeye Football. He could recite a myriad of statistics for anyone interested: future recruits, players stats, rankings, and the list goes on. It was always a priority to attend a game, a tailgate or just watch on TV. Everyone knew what Matt would be doing on a college football Saturday.
His friends describe him as a ‘devoted friend and mentor to many with an infectious energy and positive attitude. He was always willing to give his best to and for others.’ Each of those who loved Matt will remember him in their own way. May we each cherish in our hearts the attributes he exhibited which enriched our lives and may we live those out in honor of him.
Matt will be deeply missed by his parents, James and Carol (Blake) Achmoody, his brothers David and Micah, his niece Hope Achmoody, extended family and close friends. Matt was preceded in death by his brother, Aaron Achmoody.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Thursday November 2, 2023 at the Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 North High Street.
