Nancy Ann Strauch, 90, of Lewis Center, passed away on April 27, 2023. She was born on August 6, 1932, in Cambridge, Ohio to the late John and Bernice (Griffith) Burnworth. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband William (Bill), who died on July 14, 2007, and her siblings, John, Paul and Diane.
In Byesville, she learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of community. Her humble beginnings instilled in her a deep sense of empathy and a desire to help those in need, a quality that would guide her well throughout her life.
Following graduation from Byesville High School in 1950, she trained and graduated as a registered nurse from the Good Samaritan Nursing School in Zanesville, OH in 1953. She married Bill in 1954 following his service in the US Army and they moved to Columbus, OH. Nancy had a 30-year career at White Cross Hospital (later Riverside Methodist) in the labor and delivery unit. She was a source of inspiration for her daughters and other family members to join the nursing profession.
Her work didn't end when she left the hospital. She was a devoted mother of Jay, Jean and Julie, worked tirelessly on their behalf, pushing them in academics and instilling in them the same values of hard work and service that had guided her own life. She volunteered for Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, PTA, Food Pantries, Elementary School Reading Programs for disadvantaged youths and various service projects through the organizations she belonged to. She was a long-term member of McKendree, Maynard Avenue and Circle of Hope United Methodist Churches.
Nancy loved a good card game and with fellow nurses and friends played in card clubs and with family across seven decades. She was a 50-year Eastern Star, Triangle Chapter member and enjoyed a period where she was Worthy Grand Matron and a Grand Representative. In their golden years, Nancy and Bill spent summers in their Airstream and created new and dear friendships. Nancy especially enjoyed the rich spiritual environment found at Lakeside and she loved eating the perch that Bill caught!
After losing Bill, Nancy followed the same path she had been on. She joined bus tours that throughout Ohio, embraced technology and became proficient with both computers and later iPads! She visited the library nearly weekly, knit and crocheted and stepped into her faith with Bible study.
She is survived by son William Jay (Cathy) Strauch, daughter Jean (Steve) Rogers, daughter Julie Strauch, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
