Surrounded by family and loved ones, Raymond “Ray” Anthony King, 62, lost his battle with cancer on January 27, 2024. Born on May 23, 1961 in Toledo, OH, Ray was the youngest child of Richard and Lola (Strauss) King and brother to Douglas, Becky, Donna, Daniel, David and Ruth. He was also a devoted uncle to Alan and Kelly (Morran) Rabideau and David and Gail (Rabideau) Foil, great-uncle to Ethan Rabideau, Maxwell Rabideau, Avery Foil and Alayna Foil and friend, especially to cousin Gerald Strauss, Jr.
As a graduate of Roy C. Start High School, Ray went on to become a jack of all trades, from operating a carpet cleaning business to computer programming and repair to IT support and networking. He was intelligent and filled to the brim with knowledge gained through all of those experiences and more. After spending many years in Fort Worth, TX, Ray returned to his home state and finally settled down in Columbus, OH.
He had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed cycling, hiking and his evening walks, with flashlight in tow. He had a vegetable garden filled with too many tomato plants to count. One of his favorite times of the year was the Fourth of July, where you were sure to find Ray, agog with kid-like merriment, at one of the local fireworks shows. Ever since his teen years, Ray was a concert and music junkie, with a special place in his heart for classic rock. He was a true audiophile. Always a regular at area garage sales, Ray also loved movies and, most of all, his long-time companion (Melissa) and cat (Abby).
A small graveside memorial for Raymond will be held in the spring. Family and loved ones wish to express their gratitude to Kobacker House in Columbus, OH for its thoughtful hospice care.
