He was born in New Albany, Ohio where he lived with parents Kenneth and Beatrice (Goodrich) Ault and his brother Kenneth Charles “Kacy” and his sister Merilee.
He graduated from New Albany High School (Ohio) in 1952. He attended Ohio State University and graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Then he received his Master’s degree from Bowling Green State University. He married Sherrie Coellen Phillips on December 21,1 956. They lived in several cities in Ohio while teaching high school and coaching various high school sports. They eventually settled in Columbus, Ohio where he taught history and Driver’s Education and coached football, wrestling and basketball. After leaving the education field, he opened Ault’s Driving School and eventually moved the business to Florida which became their permanent home.
He was an avid environmentalist, loved music, published author, volunteered with the Humane Society, mentored local high school students, was a Big Brother, loved boating, and enjoyed sunsets at the beach every Friday night.
He was a much-beloved husband, father of two, grandfather of three, and great-grandfather of two. He was always sharing his stories of life growing up and his experiences as a coach and teaching Driver’s Education. We will always miss hearing those stories even if it was for the 15th time.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Kacy, and sister Merilee. He is survived by his wife Sherrie of 69 years, son Brad; daughter Misty (Ault) and son-in-law Neil Swonger; grandchildren Spencer Swonger, Casey (Larissa) Swonger, and Mitchell (Addy) Swonger; great grandchildren Caroline and Lenore Swonger.
