Ruth E. Alves

Ruth E. (Vail) Alves, age 94, of Columbus, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Ruth was born on September 14, 1928 in Marion, Ohio. She graduated from Harding High School in 1946, attended Bowling Green State University and graduated from the Ohio State University with a degree in Elementary Education. Ruth began her teaching career in the Groveport Ohio School System and retired from the Columbus Public School System. She taught for many years at Forest Park Elementary, Avalon Elementary and Clinton Middle School.

Ruth married the love of her life, Bill, during the historic blizzard of November 24, 1950. Their first home was in Columbus, Ohio where their first daughter, Andrea, was born. They moved to Canton, Ohio where their next two children, Pamela and William III, were born. With three small children in tow, they relocated to New York and eventually returned to central Ohio in the 1960’s. Ruth and Bill were long time members of York Golf Club and were avid golfers in the Twi-Niners Couples League.

Ruth is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Andrea (Rick) Cline, Pamela (David) McCombs, William (Cindy) Alves; Grandchildren: Erica (Curtis) Whitehouse, Samantha (Kyle) Heller, Tyler (Kailey) Alves, Austin Alves; Great-Grandchildren whom she adored beyond words, Alivia, Aiden, Ethan, Avery, Zoey, Alexandria, Ariah, Erica and AJ. Also survived by sister, Linda (Ted Gallant) Sabo and brother, Jack (Joan) Vail, as well as a host of much-loved nieces and nephews.

She will be interred alongside her husband at Kingwood Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life for Ruth will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Schoedinger Worthington, 6699 N. High Street, Worthington OH, with a service immediately following.
