

Alejandro (Alex) Gomez-Hernandez, age 81, passed away in his home on November 19, 2017. Alex was born on January 11, 1936 in Humacao, Puerto Rico to Aurelio Martinez- Hernandez and Juana Lebron-Hernandez.
Upon graduation from high school in Puerto Rico Alex joined the Army. While stationed in Selah Washington he married Ruby Agbisit in 1957. After discharging from the Army in 1963, Alex and Ruby made their home in Yakima and raised their three children.
In September 1976, Alex began his 27 year career with the City of Union Gap in the Public Works Department. Early in his career, he also worked as a reserve Police Officer. Alex was recognized many times throughout his career for his dedication and service to the citizens of Union Gap.
Alex enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching the Seahawks, and spending time with family and friends. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. His smile would light up a room and his laugh was contagious. He was loved and admired by many for his generous disposition, and cheerful enjoyment of life. He will be greatly missed.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents, Aurelio Martinez-Hernandez and Juana Lebron-Hernandez. He is survived by daughter, Gina Vickers, daughter, Nancy Hernandez-Newman, and son, Alex Hernandez Jr. (Cindy); three siblings, Raul Hernandez, Juanita Hernandez-Reyes, and Maria Hernandez, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday December 2, 2017 at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home. In honor of Alex’s love of the Seahawks please wear your favorite Seahawk apparel.
