Anita was born July 8, 1935 in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. She was the youngest of four children, growing up in Texas and later in Longview, WA, graduating from R.A. Long High School in 1953. In August of 1953 she married Robert C. “Bob” Reis and moved to Yakima where they had two children, Arty and Mary. Anita and Bob enjoyed many outdoor activities including beach trips with the kids and jeeping in the mountains. They were charter members of the Jeeping Nomads jeep club. Anita worked in the accounting department for JC Penny, Sears, and Dwinell’s Central Neon.
In 1968 Anita became very ill and had to have a kidney removed. After her recovery, she went to work at Yakima Pine Products. In 1975 she moved to Florida to be near her brothers and during that stay she had to have a very rare operation on her other kidney. The doctors removed her kidney, repaired it, and put it back. She was one of the first ever to receive an auto-transplant. After moving back to Yakima she married William Leland whom she was with until her health declined yet further and she moved to Landmark Care Center where she had been a resident the last 4 1/2 years. She was extremely happy that she lived to see her three grandkids grow up to be successful young adults and that she reached the ripe old age of 80. Good job, Mom!!
Anita was preceded in death by her mother, Fairy B. Holt, her sister, Mary F. Armstrong, her brother, Arthur T. Holt, and her husband, William Leland.
