Jim touched many students' hearts through his manner which was a demonstration of compassionate living. I will always be grateful for the experience of working with him as a student and, later, as a colleague.

Jim, having you as part of my life was a complete joy and honor for me. Your contagious smile, warm heart, generous spirit and loving nature enriched my life; I truly have been blessed to know you, and I continue to cherish you and learn from you even now. My heart holds a permanent place in it for you now and always. To say "Thank You" would never suffice for all that you have meant to me. Be happy with your Creator. Enjoy your earned reward in eternity. You are always with me.

I was fortunate to be one of Jim's students in two of his productions, Candide & Wiley and Hairy Man.

He believed in his students and brought out what others, and indeed ourselves, could not see in each of us. He taught us to express ourselves and to show emotion. He managed our movements and fed our ego's with right amount of feedback, balanced with critical reflection to make us stronger in whatever role we played.

His teachings have followed me through life and I am today, in part, thanks to Jim's input. I will always remember the thrill of being cast by Jim, and the amazing performances we created under his discerning eye.

As a student of Jim's in the 80's and having acted in a number of his productions I can attest to what a wonderful teacher and director he was. After every play he directed he wrote a thank-you note with words of encouragement to each actor. Each note was unique... I treasure mine.

Jim and I enjoyed many Friday lunches together in the early 90's with special dinners and are fun trips through the years. Jim rented me his house when I needed a place to live and re-group. Jim, you meant more to me than you ever realized, you were a very special friend. My thoughts go to you Bobby during this very difficult time, you also are a good friend. To Laurie and Jenny, my heart and thoughts to you both and your families. Thank you Jim, I will miss you for the rest of my life.

Jim's commitment to providing first class theater performances for children throughout the area was a phenomenal contribution to their educational experiences. I always made sure that children participating in the programs that I directed were able to benefit from his works. They were enchanted every time, as was I, and all the adults who were beneficiaries, as leaders and chaperones, of his artistic genius. He was a perfectionist. Anything he did was of the highest quality. I am forever grateful for the gifts of inspiration and creativity that he shared with all of us, but especially for the hope and sense of possibility that he inspired in so many young people in our area. We are so very lucky. My condolences to Jim's family and friends who will so fiercely miss his genius among them.

Jim was the best teacher I ever had. He knew his stuff and asked all the important questions that would keep me digging and challenging myself. His daughters and our sons spent happy times together in Ellensburg...what a romp that was. Jim was the head rompee in the group. He was witty and such an inclusive conversationalist. His culinary skills took me on gourmet journeys that I can still remember in detail. Sandra and I will miss him terribly. Our sympathies to Laurie and Jenny. Robert, I never met you, but I'm so sorry for your loss. How lucky that he was part of your life.
