Barbara Hersey was born, September 11, 1949, in Wenatchee, WA, to Walter William and Mary (Kendall) Hersey. She attended St. Joseph's School in Wenatchee and moved with her family to Yakima in 1964. She graduated St. Joseph's Academy, Yakima, in 1968, and earned her bachelor degree in economics from the University of Washington. She was a licensed massage therapist and Executive Director of New Seattle Massage for twelve years. After retiring from Seattle Steam Company in 2018 she moved to Yakima where she resided until her death.
Barbara loved to sing and was a member of the Seattle Women's Chorus for many years. She was also a gifted writer and had several poems published including a haiku selected by poet, Rena Priest, for her anthology, I Sing the Salmon Home, and a haiku included in Columbia River Keepers celebration of the river.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother David Hersey. She is survived by her siblings, Lawrence Hersey, Spokane; Sharon Hersey, Seattle; Janice Hersey and Carolyn (Dennis) Nelson, Yakima.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Cascade Gardens, Yakima, May 16, 2025, 11AM.
