Benjamin (Ben) Franklin Chadwick Rainier Memorial Center Benjamin (Ben) Franklin Chadwick, 90, of Yakima, WA passed away on July 7, 2022. Born December 10, 1931 in Kent, WA (to the late Obe Bernard Chadwick and Gladys Catherine Dixon), Ben was the youngest of five
Kent Valley, where the family raised beans and other crops. In his junior year of high school, Ben enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Though his mother declined to sign the papers allowing him to do so, his father did and Ben began a two-decade career of service. He served as Chief of the boat on three different submarines, and did three tours in Vietnam in a career that earned him several medals and honors - a Bronze Star in lieu of Second Award, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two
Bronze Stars and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Ben retired as Chief Petty Officer from the Navy in 1969. Ben's naval service was followed by a few years in the Los Angeles area as a service manager for Carrier Air Conditioning for the Chiller Division and an eventual return to
Washington State, where he joined his brother in the insurance business. He retired in 1994. Ben enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and gardening. He was particularly skilled in working on anything mechanical and personally restored a beloved Model T. His skills also lent themselves to his role in overseeing the new construction of Wiley Union Church in
Yakima. Ben was the kind of man who was always available and ready to help with any problem, large or small. He was known by all for always welcoming people into his home and for how much he enjoyed time spent with his family. Ben is survived by his wife, Mary Wakasugi Chadwick... his children Debbie Doebler (Gary) of Nashville, TN, Benjamin Chadwick, Jr.
(Trish) of Auburn, WA, Cecilia Harrison of Yakima, Stella Veach (Dave) of Tacoma, WA and Edward Chadwick (Kirsten) of Yakima... his stepchildren Linda Perry (Joe) of Yakima, Dale Wakasugi (Katie) of Woodbury, MN, Sam Wakasugi, Jr. (Lisa) of Greensboro, GA and Sandy Harvey (Noel) of
Chandler, AZ... as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren. Stepdaughters Robin Dinsmore (Terry) and Jody Hillier (Mike) predeceased Ben, as did his siblings. A celebration of Ben's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 30, 2022 at Wiley Union Church in Yakima, WA (2711 South Wiley Road). The service may also be viewed via livestream at Wileyunionchurch.com/ home. Rainier Memorial Center is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ben's memory may be made to the Women's Ministry at Wiley Union Church, Yakima, WA.
