Bertha “Bertie” May Doebler, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on September 8, 2025. She was born on July 2, 1935, to Clayton and Ruth Allard. Bertie grew up with a strong devotion for family, friends, and community. She loved her flower garden, her church, and hosting and feeding large family gatherings at her home. Bertie’s one true joy was apparent at any family event, where you could see her watching everyone smiling, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company.
Bertie was born in Fullerton, CA , but grew up in Lower Naches, WA, where she graduated in 1953 and married John Doebler shortly after. She and John raised their four children in George, WA, before moving to Mattawa, WA, in 1977 as her forever home. She was a pillar of the community as a member of Grace Lutheran Church, manager of the local grocery store, member of the Sunset Theater Players, and Grand Marshal of Mattawa’s Community Days Celebration. Bertie was generous to all who knew her and somehow always had enough time to cook three square meals, bake a dessert, and show up for any and every event that her children and grandchildren had.
Bertie was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Ruth Allard; her brothers, Jim Allard, Kip Allard, and Harry Allard; and her sisters, Pat Rennie and Ellen Zirkle. She is survived by her dear brother, David Allard.
Bertie was a dedicated wife to John Doebler for 72 years, and a caring mother to Sylvia (Don) Bodenman, John (Debra) Doebler, Marcie (Rod Shearer), and Scott (DeeAnna) Doebler. She was a proud grandma of 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Bertie will be dearly missed by all that knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, selflessness, patience, and a willingness to always lend a helping hand. The family would like to extend its thanks to Grace Church and its members for their kindness during her passing and their assistance in the preparation of this memorial. Donations in memory of Bertie may be made to Grace Church, where a bench will be dedicated in her honor.
A memorial service for Bertha will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Grace Church, 24581 Hwy 243, Mattawa, WA 99349.
