“Sit down and have a cup of coffee,” repeated Carole Quantrell to nearly every person who visited her home or came across her path. Carole’s gifts of love and mercy showed in her enjoyment of family and friends.
Carole Lou (Brown) Quantrell, 84, moved her address to Heaven on June 7, 2018, where she is now catching up with loved ones and meeting face to face her Lord Jesus. “Dear heart, the Lord is in charge and He will take care of everything,” were words Carole lived by and shared with others.
Carole was born on October 9, 1933, in Wapato, Washington, to Kenneth and Wilma Brown. Carole attended schools in Wapato, graduating in 1951. She met the love of her life, William (Bill) Quantrell, and they were married on November 10, 1951. Bill joined the Air Force, and Carole traveled with him when she could. The couple returned to Wapato where Carole was a homemaker and server of coffee to all.
Unable to have children, Carole and Bill adopted a 9-month old baby boy, Kevin. During the busy years of raising a family, Carole’s most enjoyable habits revolved around family, food, and church. The coffee was on, meals were shared, hospitality was free, and the front door always open. Carole spent most of her years as a housewife, caring for her husband, son, family, friends, and neighbors. Occasionally, she would take a job in a fruit warehouse to earn money for a special item like a new washing machine. Carole didn’t drive, preferring to hitch a ride. Those rides included trips to yard sales, casinos, grocery stores, church, and restaurants.
Carole and Bill enjoyed many retirement years living as snowbirds, traveling to Desert Hot Springs and Las Vegas, and enjoyed sightseeing, a little gambling, and socializing. The couple eventually sold their Wapato home and moved to Broadmoor Park in Union Gap. Bill and Carole were married 59 years. A few years after Bill passed away, facing multiple health issues and needing round the clock assistance, Carole made the decision to move to Landmark Care Center in Yakima. Without her own coffee pot, Carole still knew exactly how to get a cup of coffee for her guests and loved spending time with everyone who walked through her door. She became friends with her many caregivers and played a mean game of Bingo, happy to share her loot after successful games.
Carole is survived by her son, Kevin, and daughter-in-law, Angie. Carole loved her grandchildren, Taylor and Jamie Quantrell, and Chelsie Aucutt. Her great-grandchildren (Hayden, Khloe, Donavyn, Gage, Autumn) brought her joy. She is also survived by her sister, Kathy Brown, and many precious family members and friends. Know that she loved you all! Carole was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her siblings, LaVerne Barber Seal, Rae Brown, and Larry Brown.
A memorial service for Carole Quantrell will be held on Saturday, July 7, at 11:00 AM, at Rainier Memorial Center in Terrace Heights. To honor Carole and her love of sharing a meal with family and friends, a potluck reception will be held immediately following the celebration. Please bring a favorite dish to share and dress casual. The coffee will be hot!
