Cecil was born in Olympia, WA on March 20, 1942 to Cecil W. and Edna Fitchett. November 10, 1961, Cecil married Patricia “Pat” Gaddis and began their lives together as husband and wife. They had two children: a daughter Brenda and son Brian.
Cecil starting working in new road construction at the age of 18 years old and worked on numerous highways and dams throughout Washington and Oregon. One of his favorite projects was the cultivation of the North Cascades Highway. He drilled through the granite mountains, strategically placed dynamite and blasting caps to clear space for the highway.
In 1969 he made a home for his family in Yakima. His decision to settle down was twofold; first to provide his family with a sense of stability as opposed to moving sporadically to follow work and to help his parents in their business, Cecil’s Auto Salvage. He worked with his parents for 13 years. In 1987 Buck and Pat began their own wrecking yard, Buck’s Auto Wrecking. He could often be seen driving around the valley in his roll truck with “Buck the Body Snatcher” printed on the front.
Cecil was a man who treasured his family. He worked and sacrificed for them tirelessly and without complaint. He was a generous, fair and honest man who treated others with respect. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He will be missed.
Cecil is preceded in death by his parents Cecil W. and Edna “Mrs. C.” Fitchett; brother in law Charles; and a grandson, Kevin.
He is survived by his wife Patricia “Pat”; a son, Brian; a daughter, Brenda (Michael); sister Mary Lee Brooks and her two sons Clyde and Donald; two grandchildren, Leslie (Elray) Compo, and Jaden Fitchett; great-grandchildren Leonardo, Demetrius James and Xavier Compo.
