Charles “Bill” William Barton was born May 17, 1926 in Centralia, Washington. Surrounded and cared for by his loving family, he passed away peacefully at home July 5, 2010 in Yakima, Washington.
Bill grew up in Yakima and worked delivering prescriptions on his bicycle for Jordan’s Drug. He graduated from Yakima High School in 1944 ½ where he met the love of his life, Dorothy. He served two years in the U.S. Army during World War II. Honorably discharged from the service, he came home to Yakima and married Dorothy on September 12th, 1948. They moved to Seattle where Bill graduated from University of Washington with a degree in Pharmacy. They spent two years in Alaska where he furthered his career as a Registered Pharmacist. They returned to Yakima where he and a partner, Al Kurbitz, opened Crescent Pharmacy. He later owned Barton’s Center Pharmacy and 40th Avenue Pharmacy until his retirement in June, 1990. He remained active in the Washington State Pharmaceutical Association and enjoyed time with his many friends in the medical community.
A voracious reader, Bill loved a lively discussion on any subject with people from all walks of life. He and Dorothy enjoyed traveling much of the world after retirement, but particularly enjoyed the family gatherings on the beaches of the Pacific Northwest.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Dorothy and his children – Douglas Carl (Vickeri) of Redmond, WA, David Ralph (Melissa) of Woodinville, WA and Jill Michele Scully (Bruce) of Yakima, WA along with six grandchildren - Chandra, Stuart, Blake, Madison, Kara and Makenna, and one niece - Shirley Schimdt (Bob). Bill was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Carl Holt and two nieces Patty Harmon and Georgia Sanford.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. C. D. Brandt and his staff for a lifetime of friendship and extraordinary care.
