Charlotte grew up Carthage, Missouri where she enjoyed playing with her siblings and neighbors, riding her bike, rollerskating and going to Girl Scouts. She and her family moved to Washington state in 1945. She recalled the trip out to Washington being highlighted by their discovering en route that WWII was over. The family settled in Selah, WA where she later went to Selah High School, participating in the library club, the Vikettes and the school chorus and then graduating in 1952.
She married Edward O. Field on June 11, 1954 and they began to build a family that was the greatest passion and focus in her life. Charlotte’s best and favorite job was always being “mom” but she did many other jobs along the way, most notably being a long time librarian at Mountainview Elementary in Yakima where she inspired thousands of children to a love of books and reading. She was an amazing manager of the home and family farm. She grew beautiful roses, snapdragons and countless other flowers. The area around the home she developed into a haven for all kinds of birds that she loved to watch: purple finches, goldfinches, grosbeaks, robins and many more. But the thing that she took the most pride in was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to talk about her family and all of the things that they were doing and had accomplished.
She was a faithful and valued member of Wiley Heights Covenant Church where she cared for so many and quietly displayed what true Christian service and humility should look like. Charlotte loved caring for her family, traveling with her daughter Dena and going on family vacations to the Oregon Coast. While she visited many places in her travels perhaps her favorite was seeing England & Scotland with Dena and her daughter-in-law Ann.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles & Helen Ferguson, four sisters, Inez Steele, Lorraine Close, Catherine Ford, Sue Trampush, and her brother Donald Ferguson.
She is survived by her husband of over 64 years, Edward Field, her sister Sharon Ferguson, her four children and their spouses, Douglas & Ann Field, Tim & Colleen Field, Dena & David Elzie and Christopher & Tracy Field; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Shaun & Amy Field, Zachary & Jackie Field, Brianne & Justin Hellem, Drew Field, Cara Elzie, Nathaniel Field, Nicolas Field, Rosie Field, James Field and Anthony Field; and five great grandchildren, Ashlynn Field, Parker Hellem, Scarlett Field, Mackenzie Hellem, and Griffin Field.
A graveside service will be held at Terrace Heights Memorial Park on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. A memorial service will follow at Wiley Heights Covenant Church at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Wiley Heights Covenant Church.
