Dolores Darlene (Whiteman) Austin was born on August 29, 1939 to Ernest and Rose (Lamphier) Whiteman in Sidney, Montana. She joined siblings Virginia (Ure) and Chip (Charles). When she was eight, they moved to Yakima, Washington. She attended Yakima schools and graduated from Yakima High school in 1957. Following high school, she went to business school in Portland, OR.
She then returned to Yakima, and while working at a bank was introduced to her co-worker Jan's brother Harold. They hit it off and married on August 17, 1963. She became a stepmom to "little" Harold. They added to their family with Cindy in 1965, Brett in 1967 and Leslie in 1970. They lived among the apple orchards of Selah and Naches Heights throughout their marriage. In 2002, Harold passed away after a long battle with cancer. Dolores remained in Naches Heights until 2007 when she returned to Selah. After retiring from Orthopedics Northwest, she enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, crocheting, researching her family's genealogy and spending time with her pets. She also loved being a grandma and seeing her grandkids grow.
She met a close group of friends in Selah at the seniors' exercise class at the Selah Civic Center. She continued meeting for their monthly lunches until her health declined in January of this year following a fall. On March 24th, she passed away due to health complications.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Harold V Austin III; son, Brett Austin; father and mother, Ernest and Rose Whiteman; brother, Charles (Chip) Whiteman. She is survived by her sister, Virgina Ure; son Harold V Austin IV (Candi); daughters Cindy Reed (Bob); Leslie Faith (Todd); grandchildren, Joshua Austin, Austy McManus (Ethan); Emory Reed; step granddaughters Justine Repp-Faith (Jake McNeal); Ariana Cowin (Josh); great grandchildren Rian and Harold Austin and Adelaide McManus; as well as her nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Multicare Yakima Memorial and Crescent Healthcare for their kindness and care of her the past two months.
A memorial in her honor will be on April 25, 2026 at 11:00 at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. A family gathering will follow at the Faith home.
