

Dolores Martha (Cyr) LaCoursiere, 89, of Yakima, passed away peacefully Monday, January 23, 2017 at Cottage in the Meadow. Dolores was born April 7, 1927 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Yakima, WA to Ernest and Margaret (Blondin) Cyr. She graduated in 1945 from St. Joseph Academy. After graduation she attended Yakima Business College. Her first job was with the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She then started her banking career at Westside National Bank, then to Eastside Branch of Westside National Bank as a secretary for the bank manager. After staying home to raise her 4 kids she returned to Bank of Yakima until obtaining a job with Dr. Richard Vorenkamp, Ophthalmologist before retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Paul Cathedral, volunteering as a Eucharistic Minister, taking communion to the homebound and nursing homes, making sandwiches for the homeless, putting out the weekly church bulletin, and ironing linens, just to name a few.
Dolores was a 67-year member and Past Pres. of Young Ladies Institute Yakima #96, Past Pres. of Central Deanery for Diocesan Catholic Women, board member for Catholic Charities and a volunteer for 29 years in various depts. at Yakima Regional Hospital. She also worked on Red Cross blood draws through the Knights of Columbus and was instrumental in organizing the fund- raiser of serving coffee and cookies at Indian John Hill rest stop for over 25 years with the Kof C's and YLI. Dolores met Vin at the 18-30 Club, a group of single Catholics. He asked her to dance and the rest is history. They were married October 3, 1953 on his return from the service. They belong to a "potluck group" of 8 couples who meet monthly for dinner and have for over 63 years. She and Vin enjoyed traveling in their trailer with family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Vincent LaCoursiere of Yakima, her children, Chuck (Julie) LaCoursiere, Terry (John) Shumaker, Marilee Bennett, all of Yakima and John (Stacy) LaCoursiere of Moxee. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren and 1 on the way as well as her sister, Marcella Mulcahy and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Warren and Melvin Cyr.
Viewing will be Thurs, Feb. 2, & Fri., Feb. 3, from 4:00 - 8:00pm. Vigil/rosary service will be held on Fri., Feb.3, 6:00pm at Keith and Keith Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, 10:0 a.m. at St. Paul Cathedral.
Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
Special thanks to nurse Shirley at Regional Hospital, the staff at Cottage in the Meadow, Shopko (Union Gap) Pharmacy staff, all the family and friends who came to visit mom while in hospice care.
