He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, he was first turned down trying to enter the military because he was color blind, but when the war broke out, it was discovered that people who were color blind could see through camouflage. Don was honorably discharged in 1954.
Don worked in the Seattle area at the Hires Root Beer bottling plant as a bottler until his retirement in 1991.
Don is survived by his wife, Sharon A. Perry of Yakima, son, Mitchell Gene (Debra) Perry of Ellensburg, WA and daughter, Melody Perry of Yakima; sister-in-law, Jane Perry of Lynnwood, WA; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Don's life is being planned for a later date.
