March 18, 1913 - December 2, 2013
Doris entered peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 2nd at the age of 100.
Doris was born in Arizona on March 18, 1913 to Mr. and Mrs. Allen. At an early age, her parents died and she and her younger brother, William, were lovingly adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith of Los Angeles, California.
She graduated from Torrance High School, and in 1933 married Stanley L. Brown. Two children followed: Ellen Virginia and Walter Allen. In the late 1940s the family moved to Ramona, California.
Having earlier fallen in love with the Pacific Northwest, Stan and Doris moved to Yakima in 1952 where Stan worked as a mechanic and Doris as a seasonal fruit packer. In 1962, Doris and Stan bought and managed a cherry and pear orchard on Schuller Grade near Gleed.
Doris and her husband were active members of Memorial Bible Church of Gleed where they became "second parents and grandparents" to many of the church's young people. Stan and Doris attended Westside Baptist Church beginning in the late 1970s when they moved into the City of Yakima. With the passing of her beloved husband in 1990, Doris remained a faithful member of Westside Baptist Church.
Doris will be remembered as a loving mother, dear friend and a doting and nurturing grandmother. She never tired of saying that her family was her life. Doris was also an avid student of the Bible and of Jewish history, which led her to the Holy Lands on numerous occasions.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Kunkler of Olympia, ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren. Each, along with scores of friends, has been profoundly influenced by the love, friendship and faith of Doris Brown.
A celebration of her life will be held after the first of the year. To celebrate the life of Doris and share a memory visit www.keithandkeith.com.
