Dorothy Burnham, age 99 of Yakima, WA went to Heaven on December 30th at her home at Ponderosa Assisted Living where she has been living for five years. It is here where she has enjoyed many friends and was loved by wonderful caregivers.
She was born in Yakima on February 13th, 1912 to Thomas and Mattie Bragg. Dorothy attended schools in Yakima and was a member of West Valley Missionary Church.
She was a homemaker for many years; cooking big dinners for family and hay crews, growing large gardens of fruit and vegetables and canning hundreds of quarts of canned goods each year for her family. Memories held dear by her children are coming home from school and eating warm homemade bread. She was a listener and was always interested in her children’s lives.
After retirement she and her husband, Grant sold their farm in the West Valley area and moved to a new home closer to town. After his death, Dorothy moved to a smaller home on Pickens Road. At age 61, she went to work at Highland Warehouse and worked for 20 years retiring again at age 81.
She enjoyed living in her own home on Pickens Road maintaining her yard and beautiful flowers in the summer. Her Papillon dogs Tiki and Kassie filled her days with joy and companionship when she was in her own home.
Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We love you mom and grandma.
Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Erickson (Marvin) of Richland and Marilyn Iszler of Seattle and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Grant Burnham (1971) and son, John Burnham (1995).
