Our condolences to the family of Doug from PTI class of 2017. Doug was a great instructor and quite the story teller. You will be missed. 

My most sincere condolences to Doug's family and friends during this time. He was one of my favorite instructors at Perry and helped steer me into the career path that supports my family and I. He showed me how to program a PLC for my first time, and practices that I use on a daily basis. He made that field of controls so engaging and fun to learn. I remember fondly the time he took the class to Renton to see a water treatment plant and valve shop. He knew the best places to eat and I had my first Mongolian meal with him! Then we went down to a convention in Oregon and he knew where the best donuts could be found! After a few years in the field I came back to Perry to visit and Doug took the time to hang out and catch up over a soda. Just a great person and without a doubt he was a positive influence on hundreds of students. He will be missed

It is with a very heavy heart that I am writing this, as Doug was a wonderful person and an amazing teacher. He always made me feel at home and welcome into what was a pretty difficult time in our schooling. He was incredibly smart but always made us feel smart too. He would regularly say he was incompetent, to make us feel better! You could tell, that he cared deeply for his students, and was passionate about programming, and instrumentation. He was able to pass it on to us too. It is a great loss to not have him with us anymore, and he will be sorely missed. Rest in peace Doug.

I know I’m not alone when I say I will forever miss my  wonderful friend and coworker, Doug. He was a gentleman with a kind soul. He shared many stories of his beautiful daughters with me, whom he loved so much. Rest in peace my friend.

This is Steve Early, I was one of his instructors when he was a student at Perry Tech.  I remember the fun and interesting times at Perry with Doug. He became a friend and I worked with him at Borden Chemical in Kent quite a few times in the following years.  After work we would play Quake networking computers together.

Doug took over my position at Perry Tech when I decided to leave. He was a great instructor at Perry and I am sure that there are many students that remember him and the effort that he expended in ensuring that they were receiving a great education in Instrumentation.

I will always remember Doug and smile.  My condolences for Doug's family and friends, he will be missed.


My name is RJ Bennett. I was a student of Doug's almost 20 years ago. Doug was probably my biggest influence while going through Perry Tech. I will never forget the dinner he bought us after re-building the haunted house with only a day to spare. I was fortunate to spend the last 10 years on the Perry advisory board with Doug and continue our friendship. RIP buddy, you will be missed!

My condolences to Doug's Family and loved ones.

I was a student of Doug's some 10 years ago. It's with great sadness to learn of his passing. Doug was a great inspiration for me and others in his classes. He helped me figure out where I wanted to take myself after my time in school. His humor, demeanor, and idiosyncrasies will stay with me always.

Rest easy Doug and know you will be remembered.

I had the pleasure of having Doug as an instructor twice. I was in his first class as an instructor at Perry, for I-2, and we enjoyed giving him a warm welcome as you can imagine. Doug returned the favor though, as he took over I-5 by the time we made it there. I-5 was the PLC section, which was his specialty! It was all in good fun, and everyone in my class has lots of fun memories of Doug (and his Boolean tests). I am very thankful to have known Doug, and to have been one of his students. My condolences to Doug's family and friends, I am sorry for your loss. 

Doug was a great instructor in our department. He was instrumental in helping to change hundreds of young lives for the better. He will be greatly missed by his coworkers.  

Doug was a great instructor and an old school 80's computer nerd. I'm saddened by his passing, he was far too young. 

Snacks will forever be "snackies" to me because of him. He was always ready to get a candy bar or cookie.

He was eccentric and that was part of his charm. Long tangents about just about anything but he was a good enough storyteller that you just stuck around to figure out what the heck he was talking about.

He would ask how my mom (a former coworker) was doing whenever I saw him. He might not have remembered all the details but he cared enough to ask. 

If he ever was upset, no one ever saw it. Just the most laid back guy I've met.

He would come into the other classes and drop some sort of off the wall statement while chatting with the instructor. 

The three months I spent learning computer stuff with him 8 years ago may have given me eye strain from staring at monitors but I enjoyed them.

Rest in peace, Doug. You were one of a kind. I hope you're having snackies up there somewhere.

To the family and loved ones of Doug,

My heart goes out to you during this difficult time. I was a student of Doug's a few years ago at Perry. He was a great teacher and mentor.
I loved how he taught his class and told his crazy stories. I loved his references to remember things, "7 layer burrito" was my favorite to remember the OSI model of network architecture.
