

Ed Boersma, 72, Yakima, died Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Ed was born in Groningen, The Netherlands to Heino and Ebeltje (Hazekamp) Boersma on April 12, 1938. He studied architecture and worked in construction before emigrating to Southern California alone at age 17 where he met his wife and married her in 1958. Ed worked in a cabinet shop in Paramount, CA. He was a member of the Buena Park Reformed Church before moving to Yakima, Washington in 1969 with his wife and two children.
He worked at Modern Millwork before partnering with some fellow workers to form Yakima Precision Wood Products. Ed’s beautiful cabinets and millwork can be seen throughout Yakima and the entire State of Washington including Memorial and Regional Hospitals, Sunnyside Christian School, Microsoft, and many homes and offices.
Ed and Kay traveled to Alaska, South America, Switzerland, St. Petersburg and Scandinavian capitols and London. They made several trips to the Netherlands.
Ed was a member of the Summitview Christian Reformed Church where he served as an Elder, Deacon and Sunday school teacher. Ed was a discussion leader in Bible Study Fellowship.
After retirement, he also joined the YMCA and enjoyed a senior fitness class as well as aerobic and weight lifting equipment. He was named member of the month once. He was an incredible father, good listener and always helpful to everyone. We will miss his radiant smile, warm hugs, wonderful laugh, and words of encouragement and understanding.
Ed is survived by his wife, Katherine Boersma of Yakima; daughter Ellen (Dave) Barker of Issaquah, WA, son Mark (Nancy) Boersma of Wenatchee, WA; three grandchildren, Emily, Nicholas, and Sonja; and his sister, Hilda (Theo) Groenewold of Groningen, The Netherlands.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2010 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 6015 Summitview Ave. Yakima.
