Evelyn Klein, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of December 24, 2025, at the age of 102. She left many wonderful memories in the hearts of her family, friends, and those she served through her numerous years of volunteer service. Although she will be missed by many, we know she was greeted by the open arms of Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior ...
Evelyn, the oldest of five children who she was often responsible for, was born April 4, 1923, in Gilman, Illinois. She graduated from high school in 1941 and completed studies at the business college in Elgin, Illinois.
Evelyn met her husband John Klein during World War II, and they were married in 1944 in Amarillo, Texas. After traveling with John to different posts, they left the military life and settled in Spokane, Washington in 1946. Accustomed to frequent changes, they relocated to Walla Walla Washington in 1947 and Yakima, WA in 1951, where they enjoyed the fellowship of neighbors known as the Bracketeers. John was transferred to the Seattle area in 1971 where Evelyn joined Sylvania Lighting and continued her career in bookkeeping. Upon their retirement in 1981, they moved to Milwaukee, WI. When John passed away with cancer in 1986, Evelyn moved back to Yakima to be near her daughter and family.
Evelyn’s main interests were her family and numerous volunteer projects such as Wycliffe and Hospice. She enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, golf and even bowling with her husband and friends. She also enjoyed decorating, cooking, crafts, sewing and especially keeping up on world news, which led to good memories of her travel to Russia, Egypt, and Israel. She was also a member and active volunteer of Westside Baptist Church.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her son Ric Klein and his wife Patty of Woodway, Texas; and her daughter Pamela and her husband Steve Marvin of Yakima. She is also survived by five wonderful grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She requested cremation and no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, Evelyn asked that you remember her with donations or gifts of service to Yakima’s Union Gospel Mission.
